Brexit Plan Revealed In Leaked Government Document

Detailed government proposals leaked to the Guardian newspaper reveal that Britain will end the free movement of labour immediately after Brexit and introduce restrictions to deter all but highly-skilled EU workers.

The detailed paper, marked “Draft – Official Sensitive” and dated August 2017, sets out how the UK intends to approach the issue of immigration, including measures to reduce the number of lower-skilled EU migrants by only providing such migrants a maximum residence of two years in the UK. Migrants Migrants in “high-skilled occupations” will be granted permits to work in the UK up to five years.

Importantly, the document also reveals a phased introduction of a system that ends the right of EU migrants to permanently settle in the UK, including restrictions on their rights to be joined by their immediate family members.

The paper also proposes introducing a system of temporary Biometric Residence Permits for all EU nationals coming to the UK after Brexit.
